the internet generation educates easier, the really committed can become walking encyclopedias in no time.

The age of polymaths is here, never been a better time for it due to accessibility of knowledge. Of course when we talk about professional knowledge an orthopaedic surgeon should excel in his field, but if he has not read big parts of the Western canon by the time he's 35 he's a plebean. I know some orthopaedic surgeons who are also professors and they are without exception well read when compared to the average person (I'm talking about literature and philosophy here).

I'm not arguing a surgeon should be a top philosopher, but he should know the classic writers, philosophers and literature.

The thing is, there are certain types of people. When I was younger, I had a deluded notion that everyone could be as capable as me, and therefore could construct a reasonable and agreeable society based on logic, mutual respect, and individualist principles. Sadly, that turned out to be false. I learned about the slave class through researching theology, psychology, and sociology. There always has been one, and there will always be one. A pain in my heart will always be held when thinking about these people, simply because my young idealism was squashed by their inherent incapabilities.

Medical Doctors are basically plumbers for the human body and most are not even good in their profession.

The trade of Medicine requires no intelligence.

Can confirm. My father's side of the family has been practicing medicine for as long as can be remembered (the farthest traceable ancestor we have was the closest thing to doctor in the 1780's). My great grandfather worked on the cure for syphilis, and preached loudly about the dangers of alcohol. However, the members of my family who practice medicine today are nowhere as admirable as the ones who did so in the past. They are intelligent, yes, but they are merely repairmen and not pursuers of innovation in the field as would the other members of my family attempted to do through engineering.
