Red pill me on Stoicism. Does anyone here practice it? Has it helped you at all?

People in everyday life often think of themselves as the protagonist of a grand story, one guided by fate, and they either believe that they are doomed to ruin or somehow destined for greatness. Both are unhelpful. While I would not call myself a stoic, I do feel I have gotten a great deal out of reading them (it's only 3 major texts so not even that big of a deal to read them).

I took from it a new way framing my life, alternative to the two I mentioned above, and it sounds something like this

No one is coming to fix things; no one is coming to make life right for us; no one is coming to solve our problems or to give us the good karma we deserve after all our trials. If we do not do something, nothing is going to get better. The dream of a rescuer, or the acceptance of a deadly fate may give us a sense of closure, even comfort, but it leaves us powerless and completely passive. We may feel, if only I suffer long, if only I yearn desperately enough for a good life, somehow a miracle will come. Or conversely, if only I were not doomed, I could do something, if only karma had not chosen me to fuck over, I could have a better life. But this is a kind of self-deception that we pay for with our life, as it drains away into the abyss of unredeemable possibilities and irretrievable days, months, decades. If only, of only.
