Either would help with the other. Sanskrit could also be useful.

Except sanskrit isn't worthwile compared to greek or latin if you're interested in literature. It has only something to offers you if you're a linguist or a brahman.

E tenebris tantis tam clarum extollere lumen
qui primus potuisti inlustrans commoda vitae,
te sequor, o Graiae gentis decus, inque tuis nunc
ficta pedum pono pressis vestigia signis,
non ita certandi cupidus quam propter amorem
quod te imitari aveo; quid enim contendat hirundo
cycnis, aut quid nam tremulis facere artubus haedi
consimile in cursu possint et fortis equi vis?
tu, pater, es rerum inventor, tu patria nobis
suppeditas praecepta, tuisque ex, inclute, chartis,
floriferis ut apes in saltibus omnia libant,
omnia nos itidem depascimur aurea dicta,
aurea, perpetua semper dignissima vita.
nam simul ac ratio tua coepit vociferari
naturam rerum divina mente coorta
diffugiunt animi terrores, moenia mundi
discedunt. totum video per inane geri res.
apparet divum numen sedesque quietae,
quas neque concutiunt venti nec nubila nimbis
aspergunt neque nix acri concreta pruina
cana cadens violat semper[que] innubilus aether
integit et large diffuso lumine ridet:
omnia suppeditat porro natura neque ulla
res animi pacem delibat tempore in ullo.
at contra nusquam apparent Acherusia templa,
nec tellus obstat quin omnia dispiciantur,
sub pedibus quae cumque infra per inane geruntur.
his ibi me rebus quaedam divina voluptas
percipit atque horror, quod sic natura tua vi
tam manifesta patens ex omni parte retecta est.

1) you don't speak nor read sanskrit
2) in both measure of quality and quantity, sanskrit is empty in comparison to greek, and to latin
3) you only like sanskrit because you think it's a "based indoeuropean/aryan language"

Doesn't seem as remarkable considering how much romance terminology the major western languages contain compared to something more different like Greek. I find it fun though to look up roots and etymologies.

Latin/Greek are essential for anglos because our native grammar is so basic. At least Germans have a case system

English also has a case system. We just depend more on word order. I don't think either one is somehow magically better than the other.

>> No.17359230

>>17359212
english has a genitive case or possessive case and a remnant of accusative/dative for pronouns only.

no it does not. if we did we wouldn't have to depend so much on word order

You should try not using the loebs and just using a dictionary. I think this is the fastest way to get better at learning Latin, although at first it's kinda painful. Learning Latin takes discipline more than anything else.
