I can assign no foreseeable value to speed reading.

How many of you "speed-read", how did you learn to do so and in what time, and do you find it to be undoubtedly more efficient than reading at merely an "above average pace"?

Essentially, speed reader's thoughts on speed reading; in as much depth as you care to go into(preferably as far as you can).

Speed reading isn't exactly something that you have to do but learning to do it will typically increase the speed of your in-depth reading as well. In fact, the more you read in everyday life, the quicker your reading becomes although some eye muscle exercises(they do exist) will help quicken how rapidly you change lines. All in all, it's a decent way to get through something you don't have much interest in while still wanting to retain around 50% of the information but true and deep reading requires the brain to visualize the piece of literature as well which isn't easily done via speed reading.

I am. Can read up to 100 pages before I fall asleep.

500+ wpm, skilled fingerpoint reader. But I'm still to reach my full potential. I'll probably reach 900wpm and that's it. It's just to fast beyond that. I'll need to memorize plenty of whole sentences.

It's sometimes also called rapidreading, sonicreading.

Knew this kid that could read 1400+ wpm. Sick stuff bro. Kid was genius. He once got sick and threw up for reading a book to fast, he told me he's unable to distinguish the story from reality from all the information.

What more you need to know?

Once I mastered the art of speed reading I decided to begin applying the same method to other acts.

Now I speed eat every meal.
I watch every film on fast forward.
I listen to music speed up to at least twice it's normal speed.
I only do speed dates now.
Currently I am teaching myself to speed groom. I find that shaving my head has eliminated a whole five minutes of speed washing and speed combing.

Quality post, 10/10. If only there were more intelligent posts like this on /lit/.

What's the point, OP? Where are you rushing? Time escapes us all, but surely you make the best of what little time you have by enjoying it fully and properly, not by rushing somewhere when you only end up getting to the same place everyone else is going, only faster?

Of course it is. You're very lucky to be here. But it's best to start understanding that you aren't that clever or funny, it seems to be caused by mild autism but you do have a basic grasp of humor & irony so you aren't beyond saving, there's still hope for you.

Try and analyze why your posts aren't particularly funny, and your exhibition of language is pretty entry-level and tryhard and doesn't make you look clever.

That kind of humor is just the result of a wounded and frightened little ego. Not enough courage to open itself and stand it's ground. I see people who act like that as boys who don't have the courage to look at themselves honestly. They just create a caricature in their heads of themselves, and then pretend that's what they are. And they find others who are pretending in the same way, so no one ever intervenes in their make believe.

And when you get to the bottom of these people, you find they give themselves no inherent value. They feel that they are worthless. So, they constantly try to prove their worth by showing how skilled and intelligent they are. But it's a feeble and transparent little show.

They have no humility. They've just learned to impersonate humility, and they think that is the same thing. Again, unaware of themselves, living in a fantasy.

It becomes really obvious after you've seen it enough. There is a very clear cluster of behaviors that these people perform. I've seen it over and over and have seen the cause of it. They just don't really value themselves. They're too cowardly to change.

I have no interest in this debate, but these words speak to me.
It is so fascinating to realize that shy or humble people actually have the biggest egos. Their egos are so massive that they are unable to express themselves in fear of deflation.

This kind of response is the result of egocentric world view, it springs from ignorance to the differences between people, the inability to see how each of us was brought to our current state of being through the experiences we've gathered so far, affected, of course, by how we choose to review them. This, in turn, will lead to a oscillating, self-modifying loop as previous experiences change how we view the future ones – and vice versa. Simple humour is not an indifferent, inadequate or insignificant form, or way, to be enertained by. Placing yourself on a pedestal, desperately trying to view the world - and other people - from some seemingly objective, completely arbitrary stratum, does not impress any thinking person and would speak for the fact that you are, in some way, not completely through adolesce. A comprehensive reading of the previous would lead to the conclusion that my statement is, in a way, self-contradicting; as reference to uncomplete process of adolescense can be, on /lit/, regarded as an insult, if I were not to say the following:

But that's just like, your opinion, man.

Interesting post. I am through adolescence, but I am not "mature" yet. I'm trying though. When I start criticizing someone on here, all I'm really doing is confronting myself about things I have done, or could see myself doing very easily. You pointed out that my worldview is ego-centric, and based on that post it certainly is. I do see differences in people, and making such specific claims is really just me talking to myself.

Maybe it's childish and maybe part of me still wants to impress people with my AMAZING INTELLECT. It's the only valuable thing I've seen in myself, really. But I am trying, so I appreciate your post. I don't want to tear myself and others down anymore, it's just a hard behavior to get out of.
