How do you learn to read a different language? Anyone have any personal stories?

The grammar takes up a very small percentage of the learning time. Most of it comes down to practice and burning all of it into your brain. It's not terribly complicated, you learn the verb system, memorize the endings, how nouns are declined if they are, conjunctions, prepositions, do vocab drills etc etc, and then get into reading books, and you gradually up the difficulty of the reading material until you can handle anything.

This. Generally start w basic grammar which takes a few hours then it's just a chain of memorization. Some memorization is easier (I'm thinking Chinese after you learn the radicals) then you just read and repeat grammar steps when necessary. Just vocab and read.

How did you learn to read English?

Just have patience and read a lot lol
Once you are profitient enough to read or watch some simple stuff and have fun, it's all downhill from there
For example I'm learning Japanese, and ever since I started to be able to read some easy manga without any help and enjoy it and laugh, I got better and better automatically, my brain did all the work.
English isn't my first language either

>english-coonsuming various forms of media and shitposting here
>german-a bit in school, the rest living there
In general these are the best approaches

You go to the country where your target language is spoken, you live there for like a year, while being a complete retard, and eventually your brain starts picking on how the language works.
