Do you prefer to buy a poet's Selected Poems or Collected Poems?

>> No.17295084

If it's not a 'Complete Poems', then don't bother with it.

I am of the same mind, but there are some poets (like Robert Frost and Henry Longfellow) where a selected is enough for me.

>> No.17295539

>>17295079
Collected so I can make my Selected version of his Poems.

>> No.17295580

Depends on the poet, of course.

If it's a writer I particularly like, I prefer to buy their collected work. If it's a writer I only have a mild interest in, I prefer to but their selected works.

>> No.17295880

Depends on the poet.
For uneven poets like Robert Graves and DH Lawrence, buy the Selected Poems.
For godlike geniuses like Thomas Hardy and Ted Hughes, only the Collected Poems will do.

I want the whole thing, not a pile of scraps.

collected, if you read selected youre a faggot. poetry is about subjectiveness alot of the time. dont be a dumbass and buy someones early work. countless times ive found amazing and raw juvinle poetry works in COLLECTED books that would never be put into selected works.
