Considering it's the VERY FIRST OF PHILOSOPHY AFTER FUCKING NATURE PHILOSOPHERS that is to be expected.
Also the dialectic found in Plato and his theory of Platonic forms are necessary when reading Descartes, Kant and Hegel and they are necessary when trying to grasp Nietzsche and Heidegger in their fullest capacity.

I can't be bothered to research the timeline of Plato writing up till his death. His writing is very sophisticated, and he was a skilled politician. If I recall correctly, he very much disliked Pericles, the democratically elected leader of Athens.
