Can /fit/ and /lit/ ever truly be synthesized?

yes? Exercise has been shown to increase brain function. And unless you are a professional body builder it doesn't take that much time to be fit

it takes like 30 minutes to an hour a day to be in better shape than 95% of the population. Yeah you could read another 50 pages or whatever instead, but this faggot is posting on twitter thereby negating his entire argument to begin with, nobody crams every second of their lives into productivity.

They're both more similar than the other would like to acknowledge. Intelligence and fitness are equally ephemeral, old age will wash them both away.

no. the mistake this guy makes is assuming that both mind and body are empty vessels which need to be filled with liquid, if that were true it would be justifiable to say that there's a trade-off between physical and mental excellence. in reality within reasonable boundaries they tend to go hand-in-hand, discipline that is required to build your physique is consummated while reading and learning and vice versa

>> No.17200756

No. That was literally the thesis of Sun and Steel. God fucking damn it /lit/, you’re so fucking retarded.

You also learn a lot by getting into lifting, things people who dont do it will never know. The feeling of it, the moods that come with it, the kind of people you interact with at the gym, the mindset for discipline and regularity, quite frankly, This guppy fellow is just coping

On the one hand, there's absolutely no reason why you can't be both well-read and well-built. On the other, being in shape doesn't automatically make you a good reader and reading a lot of books won't get you in shape. /fitlit/ is a cope for people who think like that. They want to be seen as intelligent or strong without having to put effort into an area they're not familiar with, so they convince themselves that reading and lifting are one and the same. If they're lifters, they tell themselves that the only books worth reading are ones written by gigantic buff guys, which lets them off the hook of ever having to read more than 1% of the canon. If they're readers, they LARP as Mishima on anonymous imageboards all day.
/fit/ and /lit/ don't need to be synthesized, they're two different fields of study that don't overlap but can also coexist with ease. Trying to achieve a synthesis in this case is really just laziness.

Mishima was miserable and suicidal, probably from childhood.
I don't think he was stupid but I wouldn't take all of his advice if I wanted to live a happy and healthy life.

>happy and healthy life
When was that ever the stated goal? I though philosophical journeys like this were about finding the truth and exploring ideas.
>>17200783
Mishima basically discussed how the physical is in a world of non verbal and cannot be expressed or articulated well enough to be considered within the literate space. Much like the DFW essay talking about ghost written sports books, how athletes write and interview poorly because they simply DO they don't THINK and DO. Mishima goes into far more gruesome detail than that, but the idea remains the same. It's an interesting read and a subject I wish was discussed further in other writing. But that's kinda the point isn't it?

>> No.17200931

Used to be into powerlifting/bodybuilding. It's a waste of life. Just lift twice a week and do some cardio to remain healthy. Everything else is pointless.

Whatever you do, don't turn fitness into your identity, like people who push this >>17200822
