I just finished watching Farinelli and although it seems a lot of classical musicians consider opera to be the "popcorn entertainment" of classical music, I still fucking like it so deal with it.

Opera/classical thread? Looking for suggestions, so far I like Cecilia Bartoli just because her voice was used in the movie.

Hey, I like the chunky laydees. And if you're not into the bigguns, then opera gets boring. And she's got fucking amazing eyes (and tits)

/mu/ was actually a pretty decent board for discussions about classical music when Crudblud was still around, but i haven't seen him there for ages.

It doesn't work very well, since you mention it - I think there's a problem with the PSU.

>chunky old lady making funny faces

You've not seen a lot of opera, I'm guessing. Histrionic performances are pretty much de rigeur.

And >>1719483 has a point - what is this doing on /lit/. Opera is the opposite of literature - the librettos are abject shit - people taking a whole act to die, or hold someone's hand.

Terry Pratchett got it spot on in Maskerade - he had that thing where the libretto was something like

I'm opening the door/the door won't open/it seems to be still closed/the door won't open/the bloody door is stuck/I'm turning the handle/nothing is happening/bloody door, why won't you open.

Opera, lol.

Maybe you'd prefer Renee Fleming - although she's a bit bland and californian-looking for my tastes.
