Hello /lit/friends. I was wondering if you could recommend me some introductory books on Buddhism, especially Mahayana. Thanks much.

Ask your mom to get you enrolled in local community college. Then take a course or two in how to use the internet.

Read the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra

>> No.17161686

I second Bodhisattvacaryavatara, that's probably the most "Mahayana" work there is. And Nagarjuna's Mulamadhyamakakarika.

Other than that, you could read sutras but many are a bit hard to swallow. The Vimalakirti sutra is good. And the Heart sutra and Diamond sutra are short reads which are important for Zen.

You could also read Zen and Tibetan stuff. Lama Yeshe's Introduction to Tantra, the Great Path of Awakening by Jamgon Kongtrul, Zen Mind Beginner's Mind by Suzuki.

Mahayana (((buddhism))) was refuted by Shankara (pbuh) centuries ago. Study the Upanishads and realize Brahman.

I would be careful about reading Advaita Vedanta interpretations such as Shankara's as a commentary to the Upanishads, they are extremely reliant on Buddhist philosophy (Shankara is called a "cryptobuddhist" by most Hindus, and most scholars agree). If you want to read the Upanishads, work through them with editions and commentaries that aren't sectarian, or at least read an interpretation that is closer to the original meaning of the Upanishads, rather than Shankara's 9th century AD quasi-buddhism.
