Poor Tolkien didn't know that this would be seen as sexual in the future... (Unless it was meant to be sexual.) Opinions?

P.S. It almost completely ruined the rest of the book for me.

P.P.S. Its in chapter 1 - Book 2 - Fellowship of the ring.

I had my doubts because he becomes married in the end. However frodo does not.

I also can confirm that Tolkien did not have any gay tendencies himself as the inspiration for Arwen and Luthien (The two women who are to be regarded as the most beautiful to have ever existed in middle earth.) came directly from his wife.
