He seems like a moron. For example his insistence that addiction is fake, and that people can choose whether or not to take heroin, is utterly absurd. Then he rails against cannabis and other harmless drugs like psychedelics, saying that people should be locked up by the state if they choose to smoke a plant.

You should read a bit more if you think cannabis is harmless despite the mountain of evidence. At this point the link between cannabis consumption, especially under the age of 25, is strongly correlated with mental illness. Also his take on addiction is that it doesn't exist in the way that policy makers describe it. It isn't a disease or an irresistible force that absolves people of personal responsibility. It's more of a critique of how drug users are treated as victims rather than criminals, which is why modern Western society fails to cope with the issue, rather than a medical argument.

Taking cannabis as a teenager is harmful to IQ and memory, but once your brain is fully developed there is 0 negative effect at all.
>Also his take on addiction is that it doesn't exist in the way that policy makers describe it. It isn't a disease or an irresistible force that absolves people of personal responsibility.
Heroin addicts experience physical withdrawal which is extremely painful and can even cause death. That's why the medical strategy is to wean them off of it with methadone.
>It's more of a critique of how drug users are treated as victims rather than criminals, which is why modern Western society fails to cope with the issue, rather than a medical argument.
Drug users are treated as criminals -- you are thrown in a cell under the threat of your life if you take drugs, even if they are drugs like cannabis which, even if they did harm your health, are not addictive and do not cause you to harm anyone else, meaning it's purely a personal matter like cigarettes. Meanwhile in countries like Portugal decriminalisation has helped immensely in reducing drug use.

Drugs. Are. Not. Harmless.

This is one of the topics that annoys me so fucking much nowadays. Redditor minded people will argue to death, that their cannabis addiction is harmless, because they always think of a strawman argument based on religion or conservative thinking on the other end. They never were declared harmless, you're just cherry picking studies that prove your predetermined stance right.

You completely misunderstood his point. His argument is that no drug addict was force-fed heroin the first time--that they took the drug for pleasure, and continue to take the drug for pleasure after becoming addicted. With the exception of severe alcoholism, abstaining from a substance you're addicted to is not likely to kill you.

>>17154577
>harmful as a teenager
>0 negative effect once your brain is fully developed
Do you see the hole in this reasoning? The brain continues to develop throughout your teenage years until roughly the age of 25. Mind-altering substances taken during though crucial years actually permanently program your brain to need or want those substances.
>heroin withdrawal can cause death
