What a nihilistic novel, he sure does love torturing his main characters doesn’t he? Any other books like it?

I get it. I’ve read them both, but I’m unfamiliar with de Sade’s personal opinions on Pamela or Richardson’s work in general.

Pamela, Shamela, Tom Jones, and Clarissa are great back-to-back reads. One of the greatest literary beefs of all time.

What did you think of the translation?/any bowdlerization? Apparently Lancer Books pirated the translation of Juliette (from Olympia Press), while this Justine was called a “hack-written rehash” by Richard Seaver (until recently, the authoritative editions of Sade in English had always been the Wainhouse translations for Olympia / Grove Press)...

Juliette is the inverse of that, a libertine who gets everything she wants
