Sophisticated philosopher spotted. Don't want to waste time with those elementary pieces of literature, no sir.

you have a snarkiness detector?
I thought those were only sold by the sharper image, which went out of business some time ago.
Have you found a superior purveyor of these devices?

same as this guy
I liked Macbeth first, the King Lear, Othello and Hamlet are all equal second, and it's been a long time since the Merchant of Venice and Midsummer Nights Dream, which both beat Romeo and Juliet

>> No.1714736

How could one get tired of talking about Hamlet? It's one of the greatest works of literature ever created.

>> No.1714744

This confuses me. A lot of the people whose opinions on books I respect say that Macbeth was better than Hamlet. I thought it was a significantly lesser play. I mean, Macbeth had a good feel to it, but Hamlet became a fucking archetype character in literature. I just feel like Shakespeare had to have spent tons more time creating the characters and the relationships and intricacies in Hamlet than Macbeth. But I know people who swear by Macbeth's superiority. It confuses me greatly. I fail to see the appeal of Macbeth. The plot was slightly better, but besides that, Hamlet was a masterpiece. Macbeth felt like every other Shakespearean play.

EXPLAIN YOURSELF AT ONCE!

Hamlet certainly was a masterpiece. let's think of it as a comprehensive tapestry of characters and concepts that work together

Macbeth I feel, was richer, more intense and more exciting. More novel, more memorable, more quotable, not in the sense that people normally quote shakespearian soliloquy

>> No.1714775

It's one of the best, but I wish King Lear got as much attention.
I personally connect more with Hamlet, but I imagine that's because I'm young.

Not to mention the fantastic characters. I mean, Ophelia is almost as iconic as Hamlet. I mean, she was so naive until Polonius died, at which point she pretty much had an existentialist crisis. "She speaks a lot about her father, she says she hears there are tricks in the world", like it was the first time she ever actually realized that. Some people still haven't. Horatio was a fantastic character as well...He defined what it means to be a best friend. Gertrude was great too. All the rest, Polonius, Leartes, and Rozencratz/Guildenstern, and Claudius are decent too. I feel like those last five are equal to any character in Macbeth.
