close, very close, but I think you mean Super Monkey Ball Deluxe.
Characterisation is better as they have been allowed to develop further and we gain a deeper understanding of them and how and why they interact with each other the way they do.
The ball of course is symbolic of the life long struggle we have to maintain balance.
Shit is so cash.

The only part of this game that makes it relevant is how they developed Ganondorf at the end. I hope they expand on this in Skyward Sword where there is a possibility of seeing him as a child.

This isn't fucking literature. Fuck off.

This is worse than the time all those fuckwits from /co/ came to /lit/ in the beginning with the utterly inane "comics are literature" routine because they wanted others to think they were smart for reading what they read, even though /lit/ isn't exactly a bastion of intelligent thought. Not to mention comparing completely different mediums with different storytelling mechanics whilst putting one of them on a pedestal is not a particularly valuable way to spend one's time.

Now good day, sirs.

I don't have the right, that doesn't mean I can't merely exercise the ability to do so.

Video games have their own board. As such, discussion of them should be contained within said board.

It's the same deal with comics. You can argue until the cows come home that they're literature (let's not get into that crap) but that doesn't change the fact that they have their own board already - where discussion of them is more suited.

/lit/ has a hard enough time with all the shitty philosophy threads full of vague, primarily American undergrads/AP students, arguing bullshit semantics and uttering tripe like "reality is subjective maaan".

I mean, I could just hide this thread like a lot of threads, but I just don't like the kinds of things that make decent posters think twice about bothering to post here.

Gonna have to agree with the quads. Braid is a pretty good example of well done storytelling in the vidya.

I'm also putting up Ace Combat 04 for excellent writing. The story's told through the point of view of a boy under the military rule of the faction you're trying to take back control of the country from. The boy eventually befriends the enemy's top ace, and you become both the hero and the antagonist of the story. It's really neat.

Hey, OP, I like you, because Mother 3 is basically the only game that I feel really made use of the medium really well, as in, it was a perfect video game, not for fantasy-loving fags jacking off their useless half-flaccid dicks, but for people who want to feel something interesting. And it could only really have been done in a video game, even better, a video game system with relatively shitty technology. That being said you're retarded by saying "considered par". It's not, come on... maybe a mid-to-high tier book, but "of the best"? Fuck you.

Everyone who posts a game from now on, if the denizens of /lit/ are to give any number of shits, must post their reasons for their assertion. I want to play more games like Mother 3; they must be out there.

Not very many, but Pathologic would have to be one of the best. It's also quite contemporary, but it's postmodernism doesn't hijack the narrative.
The Void, also by IPL, is at times and in parts novel and derivative. As a game it is better, the premise is solid though nothing new (you've died and entered a wasteland where colour is currency) and nice cronenbergian art design.

The Path is a nice cross between 'In the Company of Wolves' Carl Jung and LSD. Lot's of missed potential and a few game mechanic problems, but nice ideas and good visual imagery.

Arcanum has great writing and is very characterful though the story is more or less generic

Planescape Torment has very good and appropriate writing, is pretty rich narritively

Bioshock, while not really treading new ground, did a good job visually and in tone, it reminded me of Culpa Innata a bit, both videogames that hilariously characterize randian philosophy

>> No.1714953

Winter voices is definitely dramatic, but the writing and the tone are effective, but more importantly the game mechanics complement it rather than stand apart from it.
