What is philosophy good for? Can you name even a single practical application for it?

Depends on the philosophy. Cartesian philosophy doesn't really have many practical applications, but Epicurean and Stoic philosophy center mostly on how someone should live their life.

Growing a spine and controlling a situation. Most people are spineless fucktards because they are controlled by spooks like Christianity and slave ethos. Books like Shorter Hippias make me realize that lying and cunning is simply being smart.

The way I’d see it philosophy is the best tool for introspection and improvement, I can think of no better example than ancient/classical works on stoicism. For me they have been a life changer and have really let me become a better man. If you want to get more on the practice/practical shit then take the time for some analytical works and practice calculating it on your routine. If you aren’t a brain dead normie then reading philosophy in itself is a good jog for the mind.

i've become autistically critical of everything i hear or see since getting into philosophy, for better or worse. it trains you to think critically about shit, makes you more persuasive since you become more comfortable with dialectical reasoning and exploring ideas. you can take it too far and become a massive faggot though.

The question shouldn't be if philosophy is useful but rather if it can be escaped. Does anyone have any coherent view on life that can't be classified as "philosophical?" Richard Feynman clearly had a very falsificationist mind set with regards to the philosophy of science, even if he didn't explicitly recognize it. However you decide to live your life, doesn't everyone adopt a code of conduct of some sort, even if that code is the egoist maxim to do what's most in their personal interest? When you make a judgment that a statement is "true" or "false" or even "likely," are you not making epistemic judgments using a framework you are either consciously aware of or not? I suggest we all have philosophical positions. Some people are just more explicitly aware of their philosophical positions.

you may be thinking of more epistemological philosophy, of which is interested in more vague and abstract problems. but philosophy that is more ontological tries to shed light on more societal processes. philosophy of science is pretty interesting and in some areas of physics, both scientists and philosophers work together closely, sometimes the best thing for a project is the question. also I would question your belief that something is "good" only if its practical

Alfred North Whitehead
“Philosophy is not a mere collection of noble sentiments. A deluge of such sentiments does more harm than good. Philosophy is at once general and concrete, critical and appreciative of direct intuition. It is not—or, at least, should not be—a ferocious debate between irritable professors. It is a survey of possibilities and their comparison with actualities. In philosophy, the fact, the theory, the alternatives, and the ideal, are weighed together. Its gifts are insight and foresight, and a sense of the worth of life, in short, that sense of importance which nerves all civilized effort. Mankind can flourish in the lower stages of life with merely barbaric flashes of thought. But when civilization culminates, the absence of a coordinating philosophy of life, spread throughout the community, spells decadence, boredom, and the slackening of effort.”

It's fun and it feels good to explore ideas and argue about them. There's nothing "practical" about sitting with your buddies talking shit and drinking beers, but no one would deny that it's worth doing: even though there's nothing practical about it, you still profit from it in some way. Some people couldn't give a shit about ideas, but they have this vague notion that philosophy is a serious thing that they ought to care about and ought to know more about, so as to be more educated or cultivated or whatever. If you're one of those people, don't feel pressured to care about philosophy if you really don't, because no, discusing the theory of forms or Spinoza's substantia isn't going to get you a new car or make some hot girl want to sit on your dick.
