>Book: Milton Friedman Capitalism & Freedom
Daily reminder peasants were more autonomous and free than the proletariat in industrial-capitalist countries. Central authority was very limited, and lords usually didn't do much. Hell there were even plenty of lordless peasants. Then you have the industrial revolution which ushers in """democratic""" governments with extreme centralization and wage-slavery, and that's not even discussing literal slavery in the colonies.
Capitalism and freedom are contradictory.

And lived free and well enough. I’m not saying I’d prefer to live then. The absolute obedience to the spooks was as stifling as it is now, but there’s little difference to serfdom and wage slavery besides the fact you escape the sovereigns easier

They had a solution to that, it was called a tight knit community that likes to spend time together. Drink together, eat together, make fires, tell stories, woo the ladies, learn games and tricks, there was plenty to do.

That’s Russia trying to industrialize under state centralized capitalism. I never read Lenin and I know that. Stop periodically gazing at your copy of Gulag Archaeopteryx and read some damn Kropotkin already.
