It would be the peak if Russian 19th century literature wasn't beaten by America and by a LOT

Society of their timeline and empire itself in XIX century saw great deal of change in mentality, Russians and other ethnicities living in the empire got suddenly influenced by western European thinkers and hat influence got mashed up with unique struggles of their own society, which culminated into that century giving us these influential artists. Theres is no peak for any kind of literature, there is only a good timing if that makes sense. This timing comes and goes.

It's interesting how you skip the most important Russian writer of the century. Like, the disparity in his objective importance and his cultural stature outside of Russia, a legit curious topic.

This is a Dosto general question, but what order should I read Notes From The Underground, The House Of The Dead, The Idiot, Demons, and The Brothers Karamazov? I remember a while back a anon mentioned a specific order, to get the best experience out of reading the mentioned novels.

1,2,3 and then 4

>> No.17115711

>>17115552
It's simple. Yes, Pushkin had the greatest influence on Russian literature, more than anyone in OP post, however his prose was inferior to his poetry. To understand Pushkin's absolute superiority as a poet you pretty much have to know Russian and this is why he is not as well known outside of Russia
t. Russian

You get the best experience by reading them in order they were written in, thus understanding the development of author's thought. This applies to everything.
