Its funny, i remember reading an article years ago by an aboriginal woman talking about how she and many others prefer "aboriginal", to "indigenous" because they feel that the word indigenous is used to draw them in to a global category of people they have nothing in common with as part of a discourse of power and oppression. Resentment towards being lumped in with people from all over the world as them ought the category is meaningful in any context other than how white people interacted with them. Was pretty funny, wish I could find it again.
No aboriginal ive ever met prefers "indigenous", but in polite white society its the word you use or you get corrected on your usage.
