Everyone says “start with the Greeks”, but if you’ve never read anything at all, I would honestly say just start with something really enjoyable. Something easy to get you into the swing of reading books. Maybe start with The Stand by Stephen King, or something like that. Then, work your way up to more challenging books.

I like to read the classics.
I watch a lotta films mostly character-driven dramas.
I also like history and philosophy I guess.
I tried to read Crime and Punishment but I couldn't go on, I had to look up the dictionary every once in a while and it got really boring.
Should I start with things that kids read at middle school?

Something short with variety. I recommend a used copy of something like Norton Short Fiction, where you have a shit ton of great stories from a lot of authors. That way you can read different styles and material and find something you personally enjoy

i know a guy at work who wanted to read but never reads. i gave him a short list of things to look at and sold him on the count of monte cristo. beautiful novel, i think, lots of fun shit. but he says the french is difficult, the french words and names. and i know it is a long book. he gave up and put it in his drawer. it makes me a bit sad to think of.

if i recommended him another book it would be more modern and very short, under 100 pages preferably.

It is and also hilarious. Easy read but long therefore rewarding.

>> No.17095569

>>17095526
yeah, you don't recommend a fucking huge novel to someone who doesn't read, retard. you have to ease them into it. go with short story collections by good authors so they get a taste for prose and content.
