>You basically have one book by each author

Not only is this wrong, as you can see, I own mupltiple writings of Plato (plus the dialogues I have read elswhere) Aristole, Hobbes and Tolstoy (I have War and Peace orderd) yet many many of the books there are collected works. (Kipling, Shakespeare and some of the Tragedians plays). I just realized infact, the copy of Notes from Underground also includes The Double which I was planning on ordering separately so yay.

but, even if what you say was true I would consider it an accolade, FAG.

Many of them are new yes, but I try to keep them presentable. Take The Histories for example, I'm halfway through its 1000 page march and yet it looks unopened. At the current rate, I would have to read over it entirely 3 or 4 times before it starts to look battered.

You British by any chance or do you just love Churchill? It would probably make more sense that you're American as nowadays it seems they arguably appreciate him more than the British and have for a while, since William Manchester who wrote that 3 volume biography was American.

And on the offchance that you've actually read it, how is Shirer's Collapse of the Third Republic? I've been meaning to read his other works and something about the fall of France tickles me very much

>> No.17096997

>>17096951
I am not British, and am indeed American. I thought that Manchester's biography was quite good, though I don't know that it needed to be three volumes. I enjoy Churchill as an author as well (probably obviously given the English Speaking Peoples and WW2 Histories), but my 'Churchill phase' ended probably around 10-15 years ago. The book of his speeches was a gift.

Shirer's book is good. If you've read "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" you'll find it quite similar stylistically. I actually think "Third Republic" is a bit better in terms of the history. Probably more pertinent for today's age as well (though obviously you should take several grains of salt whenever anyone talks about the parallels between some past historical era and today).

to what other nationalities? I studied Russian language in college so I'm particularly interested in them. There are some other nationalities there too, Hardy's a Brit, and Joyce is Irish, Hrabal and Kundera are Czech. Not interested in the greeks, they're pretty cringe. I also read a bunch of British lit in high school classes so haven't really felt the need to pick up too much of that. Tbh I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of American literature -- only read a couple Steinbeck, haven't even touched Faulkner. I've got about 150 books on goodreads but that includes a lot of non-classics as well.
>>17102462
thanks buddy! I've read at least one from all the authors there where I have 2+.
