What is some good Slavic literature NOT by Russians and which has been translated into English?

>> No.17083529

Извинитe, my name is Ken.

I'm a 27 year old American pycoфилъ (Russophile for you инocтpaнцы). I draw icons and palech miniatures on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Russian games. (Tetris, Pathologic, World of Tanks)

I train with my cossack cкимитap every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak Russian fluently, both Russian and the Little Russian variety, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Russian history and their Дoмocтpoй code, which I follow 100%

When I get my Russian visa, I am moving to Moskva to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become a cossack or a vodka drinker!

I own several kosovorotkas and valenki, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Russia, so I can fit in easier. I drink with my elders and seniors and speak Russian as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

Wish me luck in Poccия!

From what I know of my country's literature, around 90% is depressing, the one series of novels I would die to recommend has not been translated and the only thing left are children's fairytales written by Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić.

If you count south slavs, Andric and Adamic are big enough in English (though a lot of Adamic is written to get Americans to understand why Montenegro is important so YMMV)

Ok, let me see what I can remember...
The Return of Filip Latinovicz and The Glembays, both by Miroslav Krleža.
The Goldsmith's Treasure by August Šenoa.
U Registraturi (In the Registrar's Office) by Ante Kovačić is considered a masterpiece, but I can't find if it actually has a translation. Same with Breza by Slavko Kolar, guess it will take some time for them to get attention outside Croatian school curriculum.

This would work better as an AK47 or something like that.

I dont know if a Kiev author is considered Slav, but im going to mention it anyway because I dont ever see it mentioned here on Lit...
Death and the Penguin by Kurkov was a pleasant chance encounter that will always have a special place in my heart.
