What kind of material should I read in order to write a good college admissions essay?

Don't follow a template, just be honest and try to convey yourself in an interesting way. Those guys read dozens of identical essays, being a little different should help a lot.

Just write "black lives matter" over and over again on a piece of paper and send it. I heard it worked for a nigger or two. Coming out as gay would also help.

I wrote mine at Ulysses. Waitlisted at Columbia and graduated from Cornell last year. Just write about something you truly love and you actually understand, anything else and you'll look like a tryhard or a dumbass.

Makes or breaks an app at top schools where everyone has the same perfect stats. It's the only way to differentiate yourself from every other middle-class white dude with a 4.0 and a perfect SAT.

Well, first I'd suggest reading over The Elements of Style. An essay with errors or awkward language is going to dissuade anyone from giving a shit about what you say.

Then I'd ask: what department at this school do I want to be a part of and why do I want to be a part of it?

Like when I went to law school I talked about my history working in the legal field, but I also talked about how I liked intellectual property and how an episode of star trek discussing AI sentence within a legal framework inspired me to want to go to law school.

Your post doesn't provide enough information about you for us to really give you feedback besides the bait posts you'll see about social justice and how shitty college institutions are.

Imagine you are someone in the registrar and you have to read thousands of essays. What would YOU look for in "good ones"? 1. That it doesn't read like a retard wrote it. 2. That the person actually gives a shit. 3. That the person knows what they are talking about.

You don't. College essays are filled with snotty tropes. Even the good ones.
>at the age of 7 I instantly knew I was special
>my life changed forever when I did X curricular in high school

Even the international essays are insufferable... my advice? Stay far away from the Ivy league.
