How do I read faster? I find that as I read I end up repeating words out loud and doing head tics which slows me down a lot.

It feels like my brain just crashes

Don't worry about reading faster. If you're self-conscious about how you read while you're reading then your attention will always be divided which will inevitably slow you down. Just focus on what you're reading and if you can lengthen your attention span you will soon find yourself reading faster. Generally, though, if you care about what you're reading you should take your time. Only speed read to get through tedious reading assignments.

I don't really get this.
I can read work-related stuff and emails at work quickly because I can skim over it and most of the stuff doesn't need to be read anyway.

I don't see why I'd read Tartar Steppe quickly. It's just an enjoyable book with enjoyable atmosphere, so I don't care if it takes me longer to read it, it's worth it.

Reading more will help to a point but it won’t give you amazing speeds. Using a speed reader trainer is the best way to go.

When you move your eyes you going blind for a fraction of a second. The more you scan your eyes along a line the longer you are effectively blind and the longer it takes to read. Speed reader training helps you reduce the amount of eye movement.

I for example can read using my peripheral vision, and can more or less turn of my imagination if I just want to read and not imagine stuff
