Did he say that?
Well he was clever its not wrong partly as it is a degeneracy az some point but there is muxh more. People are degenerate beyond believe and rousseau wasnt someone who would die to attend every single party he liked beeing on his own.

As i say a smart man

It's all just fucking vanity. The only times I feel really good about something is when I do it without pride. I hate that I often write or come back to writing out of a misguided sense of pride, I wish I could just do it for the pleasure of it, as I used to when I was a kid.

you're very certain of that aren't you.

Use the moments of pride to write in character who is overly proud has high status maybe narcisstic and self absorbed. Its useful to be in the state kf mind a character your writing on has.
I write short stories and poetry and my mood highly influences the outcome especially since i more often write if i have a good idea... Well ok i guess 40%is mood and finding an idea along the way.

This isn't bad advice, and it does actually help with the writing, I just wish I could write without this type of incentive.
