He doesn't talk down, which gets mixed reactions. He's deeply flawed and he knows it, which also gets mixed reactions. He wrote one of the longest books of the last two decades, i like it, some don't.

Enormous curiosity about the world. Inability to cope with how sad it made him.

He was attempting to articulate capitalist realism but lacked the materialist framework to really comprehend it

Super anxious and self critical. Highly intellectual and condescending, hated this about himself. Saw the horror show of modern hedonism and felt like he couldn’t do anything to stop it. I never read his books just listened to his interviews. Seems like a good guy that was destroyed by his mind

He was an erudite guy who probably would have done better mentally in an earlier era, yet was able to extract and write about the weirdness of existing in the modern world.
Haven't read any of his fiction but I've found his essays to be a delight to read

His fiction is really just an extension of his essays, and his essays are half-fiction anyway

What was he thinking? This is borderline unreadable.

>> No.17052071

Unironically too good for this world.

>> No.17052079

pontificated too much

Has anyone picked up his ideas in a clearer and less rambly fashion? I always find his work tedious to read.
