am i a brainlet for thinking this book was extremely dry and boring?

No, you're a brainlet for many other reasons

I thought the ideas were pretty good and it opened up some interesting thoughts, but as far as a story and Huxley’s style of writing I think it’s average.

>> No.17041462

>>17041259
No. Huxley's prose is garbage and the story is even worse. Novel is well regarded only due to the interesting ideas

>> No.17041856

>>17041259
it leads to some interesting points but Huxley's style is uninteresting and the book as a whole could've been a lot better

>> No.17043329

>>17041259
No, it is dry, especially in the beginning, but for me it was enjoyable

>> No.17043389

Some interesting ideas, but not much else.

>> No.17043452

The cutaway trick was fun at first but then he did nothing with it
Boring as hell, no style and all shallow philosophizing
For someone who liked shakespeare so much he really doesn't understand what makes shakespeare enjoyable

damn bruh what if....aha just kidding it'd be crazy though.

I was disappointed by it too. Our knowledge of genetics and behavior control is much more advanced today, making the setting feel childish or naïve
Same thing for 1984, having a camera inside your home wouldn't impress anyone today

>> No.17043702

It's sort of like The Usual Suspects of books in that it's major ideas have been used in so many other stories that by the time you get back to the source, it feels like a boring rehash.

>> No.17043866

like 10 people in this thread all said the exact same thing

>> No.17044772

I think the ideas are very cool, but the way he wrote the story was garbage. However Oswell copy 1994 and animal farm from We and history stuff but the way put down the story made him more likeable to the general public, which doesn´t mean he is better than huxley because in my opinion he is not.

Well, it’s Huxley’s most boring book. I’ve read about ten more of his books, they’re all quite nice, especially Point Counter Point - but they’re all very different from Brave New World.
