Plato speaks of the death of the body, Lutherstrawman of metaphysical death. It is through Christ that the Christian sees himself saved from metaphysical death even when his body dies, and thus he concurs with Plato in shunning the fear of bodily death.
So the answer is neither was in the wrong, but you were.

If you rationalize your fear of death, you're a coward, not a philosopher.

I remember discussing this argument in my Introduction to Practical Ethics class. Somehow it was just tacitly assumed that everyone was an atheist and believed in complete annihilation of the self upon physical death. It was only when I continued my studies that I realised what a strange perspective this is, and how meaningless the argument becomes once one doesn't simply accept it as a given.

>> No.17032934

there are so many cuties studying catholic or protestand theology and they shuffle around the theology/philosophy library carrying big books, lifting them from top shelves.
It actually pains me to be surrounded by so many nubile cute souls knowing I would have to discuss hundreds of hours on dull theologicians (possibly Luther or worse Calvin) before I could get to know them physically. Besides jsut being distracting it is torture.
