Why do so many people not know the definition of a plothole yet throw the term around everywhere?

is a plothole not a hole in the plot?

A plothole is created when the information introduced directly contradicts prior established information with no reason as to why

the issue is you use dictionary terms for words while most people employ contextual and personal definitions of words, including slang. See language is a living thing not actually owned by anyone. People will over time change definitions of words as a natural process. So plothole today means any discrepancy in the plot. I suspect in the future for it to extend to catching a person lying.
>There's a plothole in your story
Will then refer to someone lying, rather then the current definition. Words don't have set definitions, and have new meanings with each use.
