I hate how no one on any of these boards bothers to share anything worthwhile. You post an image, nothing about the artist, period, medium, nothing but an incidental filename here and there.

Nothing worthwhile in your posts at all, no dialogue, just more self fellatio. Also, captcha was senerva selves. I'm feeling so tired; nothing is accessible anymore. No one cares to spread knowledge of any form without being paid or chided into it, or being around some aspie with whom you've happened to share one of "his" interests. I swear, there's no human exchange or cooperation on any fucking level, it would seem.

Most of this art is amazing, why won't you help me find more by myself? A few seconds of typing is all I ask, no esoteric knowledge or lengthy interpretations.

This is one of my favorites. van gogh painted it really late in life (his last? i think (he committed suicide)). It's called At Eternity's Gate. he died poor and unknown, having been a bunch of different occupations (he went to seminary school to become a priest, but was so pious and enthusiastic that the church felt threatened by him, so they kicked him out) and not "succeeding" at any of them. He was always dependent on his brother for money.

You can see in the painting the sharp lines between him and the background. the chair is ugly and muddy, and the walls a little less so. His paintings of interior spaces are really (like fucking crazy really) stark and alienating (look up bedroom in arles).

So this painting speaks to me because i have failed at everything I have ever done. I think some of /lit/ would sympathize (i am trying to empathize rather than demean) with him.

Those people who committed suicide (i think of anne sexton, van gogh, hemingway, etc) have helped me be ok with thinking unnatural things. I used to think i had to fix myself, but I'm becoming more ok with committing suicide after trying my motherfuckinggoddamnnigger hardest to do whatever I am going to do.

i love this painting because it brings out a lot in me. You might like it too.

(cool story bro)

>no one on any of these boards bothers to share anything worthwhile.

Plenty of worthwhile things are posted, all the time. I save quotes, images and lists of books for future reference and use. That's the whole reason I come to /lit/, or /ck/, /fit/, /mu/ and the like.

>You post an image, nothing about the artist, period, medium, nothing but an incidental filename

The artist's name and/or the name of the painting is in the title. You can usually infer the medium just by looking at the image, or you can google the artist/painting name. If there's nothing helpful in the filename, you can always use Tineye.

>no dialogue, just more self fellatio

How? This is an anonymous imageboard, except for the tripfags no one is actually able to present themselves in a self-serving way (like a connoisseur, expert/authority, curator etc).

>No one cares to spread knowledge of any form without being paid or chided into it

What? 4chan is just the opposite. It's a completely voluntary and free exchange of information, for its own sake.

>no human exchange or cooperation

This thread is cooperative, we're contributing images of our favorite art works to a thread where anyone so interested can browse through the collected images. Although they're strangers and there's no face to face interaction, it is still a human exchange. Yes, it is a rather dispassionate and mediated exchange, but human nonetheless.

>> No.1701825

>>1701822
cont.

>Most of this art is amazing, why won't you help me find more by myself?

Herffff durrrrf. Google the artist's name or painting's title, which are usually included in the filename. Or tineye. There's usually a wiki page on the artist, or at least a gallery where the artist's work is currently being hosted/sold. These galleries are curated by people who look for certain things in art; chances are that there's a certain convergence in the art being sold by any given gallery. Either in style, medium, concept or geographic location.

>A few seconds of typing is all I ask, no esoteric knowledge or lengthy interpretations.

That burden is on you, I'm afraid. It's easier (and more successful) to fulfill demands you make of yourself than to wait on others to serve you for no reason.

ignoring the painting you're referring to, when did ugly and simple = bad? and you're boring.

>> No.1702118

>>1701865
"bad" was never mentioned as that would usually refer to technique. Ugly/boring/simple was mentioned and that refers to a painting that is over simplified for a common market and world stage. It's boring because of the sarcasm and obvious symbolism it employs on a serious subject. Lastly it's not that ugly I take that back but usually when I say it's ugly it is because of the sum of those last two categories. Technically it's painted really well. Nothing gets me more than ironic/sarcastic statements or "joke" pieces.
But rich buyers/collectors love that shit because they are boring

You are blowing the piece out of proportion even the artist says you are.
Contrast his "cynical realism" with a more understanding and real artist such as Goya dealing with a massacre. http://history.hanover.edu/courses/art/goyamy3.jpg

I'm not an art student. On the question of talent, I'm not contending he compares to Goya. As far as sincerity, I think you're mistaken. He's a one trick pony, it's true, but his intention in putting his own laughing face in every composition is sincere. He rejects the label "Cynical Realism", that entire concept is something made up by critics and imposed on artists. It's kind of ridiculous for you to reject an art movement that doesn't even exist.

Gully Jimson to his young follower, Nosey: “You really want to be useful, Nosey? Then, get me a tiger.” Now talking to the painting: “Tiger, tiger, burning bright, in the forest of the night, what immortal hand or eye, could frame they fearful symmetry? Not mine! Did he smile, his work to see, did he who make the lamb, make thee? Apparently! We should have got something live, from the zoo!”

Nosey: “I like it Mr. Jimson.”

Gully: “You like meringues, cream puffs, and candy floss. I’m sorry. I should have learned by now its easy to offend the faith of the little ones.”

Nosey: “You didn’t offend me, Mr. Jimson. Perhaps I’m not the little one you imagine. I’ve got eyes in my head and I like your tiger.”

Gully: “The trouble with you is you’re an enthusiast, like my dad. He’d stop painting a picture of a girl on a swing and go right on to the shine of a rose thorn, and the pollen in a lily, and then lacquer it. Me, I like starting, but I don’t like going on. For me, the tiger is dead. And the rest is a blank.”

Nosey: “What do you see in the blank, Mr. Jimson?”

Gully: “A kind of colored music in the mind. A glass green Lazarus, stiff as an ice man. My mother bore me in the southern wild and I am black… how does it go on? Where’s your education?”

Nosey: “When I from black and he from white cloud free.”

Gully: “Freedom, that’s it! Freedom from paint brushes. From fear of yourself. Freedom to do or not to do. Freedom to come and go, as your please. Black, white, yellow… black.”

THey're a good example of why moot should euthanise /lit/ and we just have a general art & culture thread. The /lit/tripfags would drown, and we'd all get more variety.
