Yeah he has some pretty lovely prose. Black reconstruction is a surprisingly quick read for its length.

Reminder Du Bois supported the efforts of the "reform bureaucrats", probably the closest Japan ever got to true national socialists, in the puppet state of Manchukuo, considering yellow imperialism to be far superior to white imperialism. Pro-Japanese sentiment was relatively common for politically engaged Afro-Americans in the early 20th century.

Depends on how interested you are in the topic. He like, goes into detail of every fucking state in the South and adopts a Marxist perspective. It's interesting if you want to take a more nuanced view of the U.S. from the standpoint of labor vs. capital. (Black proletariat vs. white proletariat vs. Northern capital vs. Southern aristocracy.) Personally, I didn't see the need for every chapter, but enjoyed the class critique as an alternative to how I learned about Civil War when younger.

He went to Germany to study and was welcomed there with no hostility and esteemed scholars took him up. Then he went home to the US where he was just a nigger. When WWI broke out he was active in recruiting blacks to join the US Army to destroy Germany. They did and afterwards he was still just a nigger.

While there are many famous black scholars who experienced this, if you talk to normal blacks you'll get this story as well.

Imagine being one of the millions of negros involved in WW1 and 2, only to come home and not only be universally considered a detestable subhuman, but you are also denied your GI benefits. So ultimately, you went to war, your friends were killed, you gained no respect from your countrymen, and you were denied due compensation.

And not once did the nigs go full Troubles or Servile Wars. Pussies. Thought they were violent.

I thought wu tang had more to do with the NOI dogma of blacks being a historically Asiatic race and encouraging members to practice martial arts.
