I don't agree, but Diogenes was still pretty cool, so we can be friends anyway, guy.

There are Diogenes-like fuckers on the streets. Can you honestly compare these assholes to one of history's most celebrate philosophers?

>> No.1693578

Cooler, yes. Ideas more relevant today? Yes. But Plato was a genius, and a brilliant writer. Diogenes of Sinope was basically a troll.

Plato was the first to systematise philosophy. Okay, pretty much everything in his philosophy is wrong and it was taken far too seriously and twisted by later philosophers, but if Plato isn't a genius I'm not sure if antiquity had any (hint: it did).

>> No.1693592

they both were trolls that didn't contribute much else than criticism of other, and yeah Diogenes was the superior troll

>> No.1695106

Diogenes is the fucking punk rock of philosophy. Waaaaay better than Plato. AND he lived in a bath-tub. I luv that guy.

maybe the thread would have been better as diogenes vs. socrates i dunno

as then it's both about two guys who we only have second hand info on

How is Socrates not the best, most effective troll in antiquity? He was basically told by the Oracle to dedicate his life to it and in the end it's what killed him.

>> No.1695193

I agree. Diogenes knows the score.

>> No.1695198

If I wasn't Alexander the Great I would want to be Diogenes.

>> No.1695201

Correct me if I'm wrong, but do we actually have ANY writings by Diogenes? I don't think we do. So what exactly is the basis for your claim, other than that you like the idea of any philosophical position calling itself "cynicism"?

>> No.1695221

You're not Alexander.

don´t mind me, just feeding the troll.

>>1695190

well Diogenes beef was mostly with Plato's interpretation of Socrates, so you could argue Diogenes the troll is the rightful heir of Socrates the troll

>> No.1695266

Does anyone actually know of any decent books about Diogenes?
