What are the best books about the history of the conquest and colonization of Latin America by the Spanish and Portuguese?
I have heard the open veins of Latin America by Galeano is utter shit.
I'm interested in both fiction and non fiction .

Are you looking for primary sources, secondary, literature, or for any specific countries?
And yes, avoid Galeano and Las Casas at all cost.

Very entertaining book, he really brings out the adventure in what Cortez accomplished. Prescott lost one eye in a school food fight and the other to infection if I remember correctly.
