I have the talent to write good poetry but it feels like a fucking parlour trick. No one gives a shit about poetry and rightly so since people (including me) just use it for self-expression because that's all it's good for. Even if you were the 1 out of a billion to get famous and rich off of it, you would be no different to a tiktoker or a youtuber. Why the fuck is my only talent poetry? It scarcely translates to writing fiction and essays.
I guess what I am asking for is someone to change my mind.

About your problem with poetry: It "objectively" being useless translates to all art, doesn't it? Except in other artforms still being money maybe. I write prose as a hobby and still hope (or dream) to make money or even a living from it someday. Even if that doesn't work out, the process brings me joy. If you get joy out of writing poetry, you should be grateful. Lots of people don't have anything like that.

Tao lin, who is kind of meme but still a successful writer, started out with books of poetry.

To talk you out of it, my mom majored in creative writing focused on poetry and had to go back to school in her 40s to get a real job. But maybe if you don't have kinds you could just be a starving artist.
