Abridged or non-abridged?

Abridged is ok if you have a hard time finishing books, but the original is far superior. The unabridged version is personally one of my favorite books. I'd say it checks all your boxes; you could also try Scaramouche by Sabatini for something similar if you like it.

I bought the 2 vol. Livre de Poche edition for around $25CAD. It was worth it.

Dumas is pure entertainment, some parts are a bit stretch out but it's really easy to read and enjoyable.

Its alright. I dont get why people ooze over it so much in here.

I felt it was crappy adventure.

I'm currently reading it right now (ch33) and I'm liking it so far. As someone who didnt read much when I was younger, It reignited my passion for reading and got me into musical theatre

I really didn't like it, finally dropped it at around 400 or so pages. The only at all good bit for me was when the main fella was in the prison and he starts meeting up with the priest or abbot, I can't remember but it was some religious position, in the prison. Once he escapes I started liking it less and less, and the Rome section where you're just wandering about Rome for dozens of pages with these two absolute mugs just killed it off completely for me.

There is also a similar book (in fact, it was directly inspired by Monte Christo and somewhat copies the main plot lines)--Ben-Hur by Wallace. Although, it has a somewhat strong Christian tinge attached to it. Otherwise, it is a solid book if don't mind such themes.

It's an extremely good book, you won't be disappointed.

Yep. This kicked off a 2 year /lit/ phase for me. I’ve been trying to get back into reading.

I just finished it 10 mins ago and discovered the version I was reading was abridged. Literally had no idea there even was an abridged version until now.

Regardless, it is very comfy reading.

The Rome bit is complete garbage, trust me it gets so much better. Honestly just skip the Rome bit if you want it's kinda pointless
