How would you define "literature"?
Jesús G. Maestro offers the following definition
>Literature is a human and rational construction, which makes its way towards freedom through struggle and dialectical confrontation, which uses signs of the linguistic system, to which it confers an aesthetic value and gives a fictional status, and which is developed through a communicative process of historical, geographical and political dimensions, whose fundamental figures are the author, the work, the reader and the interpreter or transducer.
I mostly agree with him, what about you?

Oh my fucking god he us worse than any American academic. Why are you people tallinh about him as if he were a god? Yeah dude suck any once of fun out of literature. I want to be as detatched as possible from literature itself. Systemization in criticism is absolutely laughable-- they come off as playing philosophy.

I honestly think that the ability to enjoy life is a step toward maturity. This conception of "serious " are is the result of the unreasonable stays reason is given in our culture. that's only because people are too insecure they aren't enjoying something the right way. Jesus. There should only be a barrier to enjoyment when you are detached from the generative culture. After that, the scholar should be tossed away.

Literature is a series of intelligible symbols on a page which do not represent non fiction.

A straight up troll quote or a really shitty translation. Or maybe this guy is just a meme because his name is Jesus Maestro and he wrote a massive work on literature?

Nobody has said that it cannot have a sense of humor, Maestro himself has deeply criticized marxist literature for its lack of a it, but he thinks that being art a human and rational creation it needs to be analyzed from a rational perspective.

Systematizing is the only form of critique. What is the alternative? Just subjective emotional sentences like 'it's amazing' or 'not my cup of tea'? That's not saying anything at all
The absolute state of anglo lit criticism.

>Talking about things we made
>issa human and rational construction
ayyy lmao no shit, it is human and it is limited by our rationale or rather what we call rationale, and that which is ours.

I also mostly agree with him but he suffers from the classic "im too smart so I must elongate words to sound smart" syndrome, and I have to note two things.
>he forgot about the editor, which molds the material to what he/them think it is best for the masses
and the fact that if you are reading the original published work so to speak, there is no interpreter or the reader and interpreter are the same, unless someone is reading it out for you lol.
This is sadly not the case when the reader knows not the original language in which the material as been released and thus is subject to

>The interpreter or transducer is the human being or operative subject who executes the act of transduction, consisting of interpreting for others, through different processes of transmission and transformation of meanings, ideas and concepts, a series of literary materials that are the object of institutional reference , academic or commercial. In front of the reader, who interprets for himself, and consumes the literary materials, the transducer interprets for others, and conditions the reception and intellection of Literature before third parties.
