Be honest, do you guys take this guy or other proclaimed "smartest person ever" seriously? Do you hold them in higher regard than say Plato, Kant, Newton or Einstein?

My friend has an IQ of 156 , and reads Eragon and fantasy novels, but he also is an engineer, so I'm going to have to subtract 2 standard deviations.

Lol no, they may be the smartest currently, and maybe only in plain terms of memory capability if we wish to get into the shaky ground of sub-diving intelligences or parts to intelligence, but people like Plato, Newton or Kant are WAAY more intelligent and obviously greater than these modern iq champions. There is no point in approaching exactness about what makes them greater, lest we approach the sacrilege of ignorance to their immortal greatness.

I bow before Beethoven, not an Asian who can do math very fast.

I honestly think even mediocre academics are smarter than "Highest IQ ever" individuals. So even comparing them to the greats is hubris

Anything, really. Not all of them are reading textbooks.

Academics are high functioning psychopaths, not geniuses from the same echelons as Kant and Bach. Academic circles are completely pozzed with neuroticism because "publish or perish".
