I thought cyberpunks listened to loud techno remixes of Rammstein while wearing goggles & doing a ton of mushrooms & also not showering.

I may or may not be bitter from my high school days.

Why do aspies humiliate themselves with this shit.

They act so shy and quiet and then they dress so absurdly aggressive and masculine, like decrepit transexuals.

>> No.1682882

I hate it when genre, in any medium, spawns fashion. Enjoying something is fine, even identifying with something is fine, but using something external as the primary source of your identity is phenomenally retarded.

Thankfully, its usually something that people grow out of, unless they're cashing in on it.

The move to rock-and-rock inspired aesthetics was the worst thing to ever happen to cyberpunk. It made it trashy as all hell, and fundamentally discredited the more serious elements of the genre in favor of irrelevant fluff.

Gibson had been inspired by this type of visual apparently even while writing Neuromancer, but the rock-stylization never developed fully until Mirrorshades came along and the editor tried to equate rock with cyberpunk. One of the worst decisions ever, it really turned much of the genre into tripe

>> No.1682905

Cyberpunk "fashion" is retarded. Steampunk, on the other hand, is badass.

Steampunk enthusiasts are the literary equivalent of weeboo fanboys. The genre might have had some redeeming factors maybe five years before getting picked up by the inbred fan-cults, but at this point it is just a pulpy universe alternative to high fantasy which turns everything it touches into shit. There is nothing interesting about seeing another monocle-wearing twit living in a world of machines designed by high school physics drop-outs.Steampunk is a complete joke at this point and it doesn't take much scrutiny to see that

The thing is, steampunk has some great literature, decent video games, and okay-ish films. None of which even actually considers itself steampunk. It's the people that want to slap that label all over everything or try to create self-consciously steampunk works who are ruining it. So then it gets co-opted by losers who can't realize their fat ass looks like shit in a tailcoat and top hat.

Looking Victorian is probably the best place for a fatass, if he is serious about it. Problem is, most don't care about their appearance enough to get it right.

Oh, man. I read this excerpted in Playboy when it came out, but the issue was already old and I was probably in the 3rd grade raiding my grampa's Playboy stash.

I was like "the guy from SNL and The Jerk wrote this? WTF *is* this?"

Shopgirl sucked, but I love his play Picasso at the Lapin Agile
