The Hobbit was a big one for me, I liked a lot of fantasy stuff as a kid. When I was like 13 I got really into Vonnegut and that sealed the deal.

I am a logophile and enjoy reading words from minds far greater than my own. It's also nice to at times have a reason to disconnect from the utter horror show that is modernity, too; when I read I leave all technology behind and just sit with whichever book I'm reading. I write down words I don't know the definitions of (or can't infer) and look them up later. In the Summer I typically go to a nice park and read in the sun, and in Winter I have a nice corner of my room with a comfy chair and a stack of books to choose from.

Like music, since books are easier to make than audiovisual media, as a result there's so many of them and from different cultures. The most worthwhile vidya and television shows are almost entirely either made by the US or Japan, but with books you've got noteworthy literature from Russia, Hungary, India, the middle east and even obscure old books from fucking african countries or myanmar.

I also like the format. I have nothing against video, but if i want to learn about something and had to pick between either a text article from a web 1.0 looking website or a youtuber making an obnoxious 10 minute long video about it for ad revenue, i would rather read the article. The same goes for novels vs film adaptations sometimes
