What drives someone to write deep and complicated novels?

good question, not sure I have and answer, probably something to do with just trying to understand the world and what it means to exist or something like that. the fact that someone can write something like pic related or Moby Dick is just insane.

Its prose is more thought out then your everyday novel. And I should have posted multiple books, not just Moby Dick

>> No.16760095

It's quite interesting isn't it? The more thought out novel has long gone. I try to read modern literary fiction and my god is it so fucking whiny. All the canon classics and other classics can be whiny but are usually a part of some grander theme. Modern novels are basically:
>white male author: whines about loneliness, usually in academia, is in a weird relationship. note that aspiring /lit/ authors are similar but it's usually incel like complaining instead
>white female authors: wah wah feminism and I have to find myself while hanging out with friends and falling in love with douche bags
>black male authors: wah wah black culture expects me to be this toxic masculine nigga but i don't want to plus a hint of racist society. only different one is Marlon James who writes interesting shit I guess check out a brief history of 7 killings
>black female authors: wah wah white people oppress me and there are microagressions I'm going to have to overcome to be a boss ass bitch.
I'm not like you /pol/fags who are just going to blame publishers for being mainly female or jewish because even in fucking writers circles on websites like this one it's the same whiny bullshit. Why? Is it because people are living in enclaves that reflect their experience and thus only want to write that specific POV. It's trash fellas.

Honestly asking, are you a woman?

I don't know if this is a male and female difference thing but I've always felt an inner desire to make something great, it doesn't have to be a novel but there is for me an inner desire to express myself in the most complete way possible. There are things you want to say, things you want to do, I don't know how to explain it it's just a desire to create and there's a frustration at the fact I haven't made something like that. Don't you think it would be cool to make something really amazing?

Not a woman. There are many ways to manifest a will, why a novel?

>> No.16760768

>>16760701
Why anything? it's appreciation of an aesthetic. Also a novel is something you can write yourself, on your own, you don't need anyone else and anyone can theoretically do it. It's an "easy" way to express yourself.

>> No.16760832

>>16760701
also I suspect it's one of the many ways to go on a "hero's journey", which I think is the main desire of most men. That's why I was thinking it could be a male/female difference
