Why do people pretend this guy's work is something extremely sophisticated? He was a literal comic book writer.

I've never heard anyone call his work sophisticated, just entertaining and enjoyable. He was a great author of short stories and deserves the praise he gets.

He was sophisticated. You're just pseuds who don't understand his vision. Modern pop culture has done a huge disservice to Lovecraft's vision.

he was definitely not this and you thinking so is very telling of just how many short stories you've even read.

Maybe you're right, I'm currently reading a collection of his stories for the first time and apparently his earlier work is the roughest. I really like it but it's mostly just spooky stuff as far as I can tell, so far anyway. Some of his word choices are pretty wild and made me pull out the dictionary. 'thaumatropically' I'll be goddamned.

>HP Lovecraft wasn't a great short story writer
Imagine unironically typing this out and pressing 'post' and sincerely holding this opinion lol

>I read all of Lovecraft's story just so I can substantiate my claims of hating him
I can understand reading an opponent's philosophy to better deride and attack it, but this?

People don't read, so they don't know it.
