I inherited my dad's books and he had these Dune books. I've done a bit of research and I think the two Putnam ones are first editions, and the Chilton one is a book club version? Technically the second edition?

I'd really like to get first editions of all of them to complete the collection. What are the ones I am missing and what should I expect to pay? I can't even find the first edition on eBay right now when I could before.

Many years ago, when my dad was in school, he learned that Frank Herbert was going to be at a bookstore in a nearby mall signing books. He and his friend, both being fans, decided to go. When they arrived, they realized that neither of them had brought any of their Dune books to college with them, and so they had nothing to ask Herbert to sign. Unwilling to buy the Dune Encyclopedia, which was what the book signing was promoting, my dad instead bought a copy of Lolita and asked Frank Herbert to sign that. He did. It's currently on the bookshelf in our basement- Lolita, by Vladimir Nabokov, and on the inside front cover, it says "Hope you enjoy the book and learn a lot! Frank Herbert."

I think he had to have the first edition of the second one. It kind of trigger me that it's some multiple edition paperback. Last one I think is the first paperback version.

I don’t know your financial situation but you should sell them and go do something cool

I'm pretty well off. I'd like to keep them and get the first editions of all.

I've only read the first book and I love it. Got maybe 1/4 through the second one and stopped. I'll have to pick it up again because I hear that it really gets good again with the 3rd book and on.
