Is he right? I mean in terms of us perpetuating the cycle of the endless suffering. Is it really our duty to end the cycle?

He never talks about any duties. In fact, he argued opposed to duty-based, deontological ethics. Please stop making misinformed threads and start actually reading him.

Should I just cancel my date for Sunday and strive harder for celibacy? I don't want my bloodline to suffer. The mere thought that I want to have kids and raise them is not a thought that wants the best for me. Having kids is damning them to hell.

But he does talk about becoming a celibate that disconnects from all worldly pleasure.

No, lol. Go on the date. You don't have to have kids, nor, if you do, does their upbringing have to be bad.

Actually you're right and I apologize for the shit thread.

For the love of God, please stop this meme. Schopenhauer didn't say everyone should become celibate. By all means go to your date and have your kids. If, however, you felt normal life is not satisfactory enough and you felt an inclination to a more spiritual life, you might perhaps consider becoming a monk or a solitary ascetic. What is it with Schopenhauer that attracts so much misinformation?

If I'm being honest with you I just watched a youtube video, didn't actually read much of him. I also read some articles. Really sorry for this.

That should come from a sense of internal disinclination if or when the will turned against itself. It's by no means a duty to be forced.

No need to be sorry my friend, but threads like this come up a lot and are really frustrating to see a philosophy with so much depth always handled superficially, If you like the themes of his philosophy you could perhaps consider reading his books
