I was reading pic related and was expecting just autistic “it’s da joooooooos” screeching, but I was surprised how well written, often witty and well researched the book was
And no I don’t mean well researched as in “look at this cohencidence”
No, the book explored the ancient Sumerian, Egyptian, Akkadian and other ancient civilizations from a modern archeological perspective
The Sumerian civilization is over 5000 year old and has invented the first written script in human history and 90% of the written documents found were contracts
I mean the whole book brought to life to me how Sumerians lived and while reading it I felt like I was living and slavewaging in Sumeria
Sumerians enjoyed craft beer and brawling in taverns. Lots of laws dealt with what happens when people perform classical fisticuffs and it ends in a broken nose
But it also explores complex concepts such as international trade and banking in the ancient world, which it was the swindle
Overall it’s a book I really couldn’t put down
If you want to know what it must have been like to be an Avalon (have) and a Muskaton (have not) in ancient Sumeria, this is a must read.

I read the intro and it was just straw man arguments, angry ranting, conspiracies, and wacky accusations. The author doesn't even give his own name! That's a colossal red flag for any non-fiction book.

I also don’t think the book claimed to be scholarly, but judging what standard nowadays is used for “scholarly”, I would be fine with even using this book as an authority on this topic

Sumerians is where the Sumerian Swindle was invented. Sumerians also invented the religion that the Jews later adopted. Essentially the Adam and Eve story as well as Moses, all come from Sumeria
Essentially this book explains how modern banking was invented
I subsequently watched some documentaries about Sumerians and the book is actually spot on on the topic of Sumeria and why they declined
Essentially the Sumerians were enslaved by debt and made liable for it
When their productivity was all but gone and they couldn’t afford to buy more land due to inflation and loss in productivity, or even refused to work on the land of the bankers, the banker class just started selling the land to foreigners and bringing immigrants, displacing the Sumerians from their own land
They also discuss Egypt and this is actually a very good explanation of what happened to the ancient Egyptians. Essentially the ancient Egyptians were replaced by Semitic and Black African immigrants
