With Terry, you can start anywhere. But if your into starting from he start, go with The Colour of Magic.

However, my recommendation would be Good Omens with Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman. A personal favourite.

Discworld reading order guide if anyone needs it

I read them chronologically

I don't know if this comparison is totally out of left field, but I always imagined that Adams was somewhat influenced by Kurt Vonnegut. Of the Vonnegut novels I've read, Breakfast of Champions seems closest to HHG. similar approach to pulpy sci-fi content, similar humour to an extent, but with a darker, very American outlook

However, if you love HHG because of the English humour and its comforting brand of absurdity, then I second the nomination of Terry Pratchett.

First few Discworld books are actually too much in DA style imo.
They really get great after a while when Terry gets his own style.
They are all incredibly funny and well written tough, I can't recommend them enough.

John Dies at the End. Hilarious book.
