I only read Barbarians at the Gates which seems a little cringe in retrospect.

I dont know but i love his work. He's another one of those writers with firm, terse prose.

The man spent half his life protesting against apartheid. He moved to Australia because SA was becoming too dangerous, something he rightfully pinnes on ANC corruption.

In Waiting for the Barbarins there are a few paragraphs on protagonist cleaning the feet of a barbarian woman and the relaxing and sexual energy of the act

The man's not stupid. He's a white south african, he knew exactly what was coming (and knew it wasn't going to be all hugs and kisses after the end of minority rule) and STILL was against apartheid.

His novel Disgrace deals with the end of apartheid, and it doesn't mince its words about rural violence perpetrated by blacks.
