What are some great works of literature that are also tear-jerking page-turners?

Not really a tearjerker. I mean I guess that one chick dies , but that's it.

I'd like her to tear-jerk my page-turner if you know what I mean

One Day by David Nicholls
It's popular, cheap and 400 pages of easy reading. Avoid all reviews/comments/blurbs which would otherwise spoil the experience; just read it. I see at least one copy of it in just about every charity shop I visit.
I wouldn't classify it as great literature, but a very solid read.
