Can a book be "too short"?
Length never really mattered to me, really.

My biggest problem with that book was the shitty translation and the near impossibility of finding it in the US.

It's really shocking to me how people - even those who read a lot of science fiction - can lack knowledge about science fiction and fantasy to this extent where they don't know anything outside of a few well-publicized names. I don't even mean to shit on OP since even knowing Dick and Heinlein is fairly well read these days, but, you know, step your game up if you claim to be a sci-fi fan. There's such a wide, wild world of speculative fiction out there, go out and experience it, you dig?

>> No.1661234

>>1661231
As far as I can tell, every time I step away from the major names in fantasy I'm just reading total shit. The least famous author I've enjoyed was Gemmell.

>> No.1661236

roger zelazny is a good author, DL everything he wrote, tim powers is good. All the old fantasy authors like robert e howard are good.

Right away i can see you have gone wrong, you should not be reading any Forgotten realms garbage, you shouldn't be reading anything which includes liberal trash like race mixing or "forbidden love". And finally, women write ROMANCE novels, they do not write fantasy or sci-fi. There is no point to ever read a novel written by a woman.

>> No.1661247

>>1661234
I don't know about that. I mean, I guess it depends on how you define major name - Ted Sturgeon? Fred Pohl?

I think there really is a lot of good stuff out there that doesn't get read at all. Although usually it doesn't appeal to the same audience as a Dragonlance novel or Forgotten Realms. I would say those are shit, but opinions differ, I guess.

>>1661236
uh. ignore the racism. but zelazny and powers are legit writers.

i read the anubis gates and i was super fucking disappointed. maybe because i wasn't expecting a long 100 page romp through dickensian england. also the time travel tricks powers used are super obvious. i don't know... maybe if i had read it when it came out, i wouldn't have been so hip to its tricks
