Is an e-reader worth it if:

>I don't read much, maybe 5-8 books a year
>I plan on buying my books/not into pirating

I think it would be nice to have but if I only read a handful of books a year I don't know if it's worth the cost. But I've heard that an e-reader makes people read more than they did with paper, so there's that.

No

it would take several years at that rate of reading for the savings on the ebooks to cancel the cost of the reader, if that's the question here?

I don't necessarily care about that. Just more like, is it worth it to a casual reader or is it a waste of money? Are they that much better than print books that it's worth it? I just want a good reading experience.

If you find it easier to read that way just use your phone

I don't want to use an LCD screen. Either e-ink or paper.

I prefer the experience of a physical book a lot more. The best reasons to go with ebook are 1) you dont accumulate a lot of books in your house (which depends on your preferences for owning things) and 2) ebooks usually a bit less expensive than physical.

For me I can't decide. I can read faster on a screen but I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing? I've heard screens enforce skimming but maybe that's just LCD. But the whole feeling the pages and smelling the books is not a big deal to me. What I do wonder though if retention rates are really better with physical or if it's just a meme.

Sorry not enforce, I meant encourage or something like that.

I wouldn't go in expecting it to change your reading habits. I read like 8 books a year on my Kindle though because I like to read before bed and I don't regret spending $100 on it. I also pirate my books for the most part which is a huge bonus.

Anyway, if you're choosing to spend your disposable income between two of your hobbies, I'd go with the one you really like to do every day.

I have a kindle, yes it's badass, no I'm not a shill.
Buy it if you want it but you should look for a used one.

For me, it changed my reading habits. Before having an ereader, I read ~10 books a year. This year I bought a kindle in August, and I've read 8 books so far, in 2 months.

Of course part of the problem back then was being a lazy faggot who didn't want to drive to the bookstore; now I just download any book I want.

Why would you not pirate e-books?
