Because disaffected youngsters use 4chan as a place to vent without consequences? Or even to test their ideas against withering criticism? Just a thought.

A lot of people (especially those suffering from social isolation or rejection) go through a phase where they believe that they are inherently superior to others in intellect and/or some other attributes and this is why they are rejected or unable to assimilate for being different. Classical literature is a stereotypically "smart" pastime that has a low barrier for entry and can be done solitarily so in a vain attempt to validate their feelings of superiority they pretend to enjoy it.

A lot of newfriends don't understand this aspect of chans, you don't have to take what you're saying that seriously, it is just an opportunity to see what sort of arguments could be made from all kinds of positions and what kind of criticisms will be given.
